As the weather improves, I’m beginning to see more cats out and about.  It amazes me that, in the world as it is today, some still believe it is better for cats to roam at will than to live the life of an indoor pet.  If you are one of these, please consider the following risks to your kitten before turning her loose:

* It is just as illegal to allow a cat to roam free–in virtually every U.S. town–as it is to turn your dog out.  If spotted by or reported to Animal Control, your pet will be carted-off and locked-up in a nanosecond.  Very few ever survive such a fate.

* Free roaming cats are exposed to and at risk for contracting two deadly “outdoor cat” diseases:  FIV (feline HIV) and Feline Leukemia.

* Domestic cats are not as wise and worldly as their feral counterparts and will almost certainly be on the losing end of cat fights.  They will also be easy prey for fox, other woodland creatures; and, if small enough, for birds of prey.

* Neighborhood dogs, even those kept in yards and walked on leash, are a danger to wandering cats.  Curious kittens can slip through small fence openings, unaware of the hundred pound dog lazing on the other side, until it is too late.

* No matter where you live, there is traffic.  Cars, buses, trucks, motorcycles, bikes; even skateboards and electric scooters can be deadly. And, cat owners running over their own pets, when pulling in or out of their driveways, is a more common occurrence than you might imagine.

* Even if you live in a quiet neighborhood of neatly manicured lawns, there is a chance that your pet will ingest insecticides while nibbling on that beautiful green grass, or become deathly ill when eating one of the many plants known to be poisonous to cats or an already poisoned rodent.

*Outdoor cats are exposed to every kind of internal and external parasite in existence, which will come right along with him when he returns home to eat or sleep.

* Finally, there exists what is possibly the most dangerous threat of all to friendly, unsuspecting pets: ill-intentioned, cat-hating human beings.

If, after giving the indoor versus outdoor lifestyle a second glance you still decide to allow your kitten to roam free, please do everything possible to give her a fighting chance:

* Make sure you cat receives inoculations for FIV & Leukemia in addition to rabies and standard feline vaccines.

*Never, ever de-claw a cat that has unsupervised access to the out doors.  Claws are its only means of self-defense and will also allow it to climb a tree to safety.

* Spay/neuter your pet before turning it loose. Otherwise, your female will most certainly be impregnated and your male, while wandering far and wide, might become lost or find himself in competition–translate “cat fights”– with other Toms over territory and females.

* Administer monthly flea, tick, and heart worm preventatives religiously.

* Take your pet to a veterinarian at least every 6 months for a thorough once-over.

* And, perhaps most importantly, provide your pet with up-to-date identification in the form of both a microchip (easily inserted and registered by any veterinarian) and a break-away collar with contact, rabies, and animal license tags.  If lost, injured, or picked-up by Animal Control, this will provide the only hope of being reunited with your kitten.

Finally, if you are not a cat owner, but find a lost or injured stray, please provide a safe, warm temporary shelter; along with food and water; while you either attempt to locate its owner or call your local SPCA for assistance.

Soul Mates & Twin Souls are both important, primary spiritual connections; and, they are very different.  We all have many soul mates: individuals with whom we have shared close relationships during our many sojourns on Earth.

The nature of these relationships vary and include relatives, friends, professional colleagues, lovers, spouses, and almost every important, meaningful association we form. But, they are not always easy, compatible, or positive. We’ve had a long history with our soul mates and have, therefore, created both positive AND negative karma together.

Have you ever met someone for the first time and experienced a strong and immediate attraction or repulsion to them? Or, have you ever been in a relationship that your intellect and reason tell you is not good for you; yet, your heart and emotions over- ride such common sense with the feeling that it is your “destiny” to remain with this person, regardless of  inherent difficulties? These are probably soul mate connections.

When you partner with a colleague to achieve a particular goal or complete an important project; and, you find you are of one mind, communicate effortlessly, and complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses; or, when you experience a dramatic “love at first sight” event, these are probably soul mate  “reunions,” as well.

However, a twin soul, or “twin flame,” is a different thing altogether. These are created at the same instant and are spiritual complements to one another.  Your twin soul is a real and imperative part of yourself–the yin to your yang, or vice verse.  He or she is the complementary balancing force which allows spiritual homeostasis to occur. Regardless of whether you are physically together or not ( and, in very many cases, you will not be, as one often remains in the realm of spirit while the other enters embodiment) you will always remain connected and in contact at the deepest levels of consciousness. The bond between twin souls can neither be broken nor replaced.

You can learn much more about soul mates and twin flames in the Climb the Highest Mountain books and other works by Mark and Elizabeth Clare Prophet (Summit University Press). Though I hope this has been an adequate introduction, if you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’ll see what I can do to shed a little more light on this intriguing subject.

I’ve received several emails from readers during the past 2 weeks on the possibility of reconnecting with a pre-deceased loved one and the difference between a soul mate and a twin soul.

With regard to the former:  Since energy never dies, just transforms; and, since Love is the most powerful “connector” of distinct energy fields, when we lose a loved one, this is just a physical separation. The spiritual bond endures and can be accessed through the heart and Mind–rather than the human brain and reason–by way of prayer, meditation, and contemplation.

A method available to access the history of your soul’s involvement with another person is to locate a licensed, professional hypnotic life-regressionist.  Personally, I wouldn’t allow myself to be hypnotized/regressed by anyone not possessing a M.D. in Psychiatry or a Ph.D. in Psychology.  When you give-over so much self-control, you want to be absolutely CERTAIN that your mind and spirit are in capable, ethical hands.  The only time I have ever experienced hypnosis was when I was in the audience, listening to a speaker who demonstrated his process with a subject on stage! Once I realized how susceptible I was to the “suggestions” of hypnotists, I resolved to never turn over so much self-control to anyone.  Yet, When I read about the work Dr. Micheal Newton has done regressing patients who were in the Theta state of consciousness, I do think I would at least consider turning myself over to someone trained in his methodology–possessing impeccable credentials and references–if ever there arose a  subject I felt a deep need to explore and could not find resolution by going within.

Another path to exploring the history of your connection with others is to obtain a Life-Reading. People who offer these refer to themselves as mystics, seers, sensitives, and, most often, psychics. “Psychic” derives form the Greek, psychikos, and simply means “of the soul.”  But, again, you should do your homework before obtaining a life reading from anyone.  Because I am positively impressed with the body of work of the early 20th century psychic Edgar Cayce, I went through the Association for Research and Enlightenment when searching for a person to do a life reading on myself.  And, when I received it–from a distance and via tape–there was no doubt in my mind that the soul history being accessed and “downloaded” from the Akashic Records was my own.  It was too detailed and specific to question; and, it was extremely edifying and helpful to me in tying together multifarious life-experiences, relationships, propensities, and past-life memories.

The subject of soul mates and twin souls is one I touch upon in my novella, Enduring Destiny, and will discuss in next week’s blog.

In the meantime, never fear! The bonds of love are strong, transcend materiality, and will only be broken if you and/or your beloved choose to break them.

No analogy fits better than”giving birth” where writing and publishing a book is concerned.
First you conceive an idea. Then, over time, it gestates, becomes more organized and complex. Eventually it takes on a unique identity of its own, but is still dependent upon you for nourishment and a safe place to develop. Finally it “comes out” as a full-blown manuscript.

But this is just the beginning of its physical life. It now needs to be “dressed” properly–both in content and cover. Then comes the formal announcement of its arrival–the press release and publicity;the only way others will come to know of its existence. Finally, it needs to be distributed and well-stocked when and where it is expected to be available.

As the “mother” of my new book, Karma: How To View it, Use It, and Lose It, I’ve done my job. Its formal release date was yesterday, 2/2/12. Now its up to readers interested in the subject of my work to seek it out–AND–most importantly, it is up to my publisher to make sure it is where its supposed to be when they do. Let’s see how things go…
